OFI Crete signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Groning through the club’s website on the 25th (Korean time). Creta introduced Groning, “Groning is a striker born in 1997. He was promoted while playing for Viborg and showed impressive scoring ability. He also lived in Korea while playing for Suwon Samsung.”
Groning made his name known by playing for Hobro and Skive. He played for Skive in the 2019–20 season, appearing in 31 league matches and scoring 14 goals. After that, he moved to Viborg and scored 12 goals in 21 matches in the 2020-21 season, and also played a big role before promotion. He proved his competitiveness by succeeding in 17 matches, 6 goals and 3 assists in the Danish first division.
He joined Suwon last year. He was introduced as a top-notch striker in charge of Suwon’s front line, raising his expectations. But Groening did not do his part. He played in 14 K-League 1 matches and did not score a single goal. He scored goals in the FA Cup, but was sluggish in the league and Suwon’s offensive power fell.
