Male professional golfer Jo Woo-young (22) is the main character of the amateur blast this season.

He won the 2023 KPGA Srixon Tour 2nd tournament held in March, and last month, he reached the top at the Korean Tour Golf Zone Open held at Jeju Golf Zone County Ora (par 72). He was the first amateur champion on the KPGA Korean Tour in 10 years.

At the recently closed GS Caltex Maekyung Open, he tied for 8th place and achieved the top 10, continuing a good trend.

Jo Woo-young, who recently had an interview with Dailyian at Namseoul CC in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, expressed her determination to achieve good results at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, which will be held this fall.

The meaning of the Taegeuk mark was special for Jo Woo-young, who won first place in the final selection of amateurs at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year and will participate as a national team member.

He said, “I think I am a happy player because I am representing the country. He expressed his pride, saying, “It is not possible for anyone to become a national representative.”

Expectations for the men’s national team at the Hangzhou Asian Games, in which Cho Woo-young will participate, are higher than ever. Yubin Jang, an amateur, and Seongjae Lim and Siwoo Kim, who are active on the PGA Tour, will also join.

In response, Jo Woo-young said, “This time, pros Si-woo Kim and Seong-jae Lim are also joining, and many people say that ‘a gold medal is a given.’ But I don’t know about golf. Rather than thinking that I have to win the gold medal unconditionally, I am preparing with the thought of fully showing my skills.”

Cho Woo-young’s participation in the Asian Games was delayed for a year due to Corona 19 last year. The postponement of the Asian Games brought about a significant change in his golf life.

He said, “I heard about his acting when the Maekyung Open ended last year. He had been in a car accident the week before, and was eliminated from the preliminaries cut for the competition. At first, he didn’t really realize it, but after a week or two passed, he wondered if the Asian Games he’d been waiting for had gone to waste. As an amateur, he was not young, so he was in a hurry, but it was so regretful and empty.”

But the ordeal hardened him. Cho Woo-young said, “I think waiting for 1-2 years is an experience in my golf life. He is now preparing earnestly and diligently,” he said.

Currently, his confidence in the Asian Games is considerable.

Cho Woo-young emphasized, “I have the confidence that I can win unconditionally no matter who my opponent is if I prepare well.”

After the Asian Games, he is drawing the PGA Tour stage.

Cho Woo-young said, “The world’s No. 1 has not yet emerged among male golfers. When world-class male players appear, interest around them will naturally increase,” he said. I think interest will rise only when there are more players from the PGA Tour. He also wants to contribute to the popularity of men’s golf,” he said.

His role model is Jason Day (Australia).

Cho Woo-young said, “I was just Tiger Woods until elementary school. But in 2015 he felt a lot watching Jason Day. He thinks he has a lot to learn, both technically and mentally. He has been targeting Jason Day all along.”

The following is the full text of the interview with Jo Woo-young.

Q: Please briefly introduce yourself.

A: My name is Jo Woo-young, 23 years old, currently in the 4th year of Korea National Sport University. This is the national golf team who participated in the Asian Games.

Q: I’m curious about how you’ve been doing lately.

A: I’m on the Srixon tour, and I’m raising my senses while attending professional competitions with the goal of participating in the Asian Games.

Q: I understand that you started playing golf relatively early. Is there a trigger? I wonder if Wooyoung has a role model in his mind.

A : When I was 9 years old, I went to a golf academy with a friend I went to an English academy with, and I felt a lot of fun at that time, so I told my parents. He started doing it in earnest from the 4th grade of elementary school.

His role model was just Tiger Woods until elementary school. Then he saw Jason Day in 2015 and felt a lot. He thought there was a lot to learn from the technical and mental aspects. Since then, he has been targeting Jason Day all along.

Q: Please tell us about the appeal of golf. When was the most rewarding time while working out?

A : It is an event that can be played for a long time while traveling around the world. There are many spectators. I think the charm is that you can express your style in an instant even without a big movement. I think I did well when I won the competition and my juniors talked about me as a role model.

Q: Let’s talk about the Asian Games. I understand that you even put off turning pro in order to participate in the Asian Games. What does the Taegeuk mark mean to Wooyoung?

A: I think I am a happy player because I can represent my country. Isn’t it the national representative that anyone can become? This time, pros Kim Si-woo and Lim Seong-jae are joining the national team, and many people say that winning the gold medal is a matter of course. But golf is something you don’t know. Rather than thinking that I have to win the gold medal unconditionally, I am preparing with the thought of fully showing my skills.

Q: How did you honestly feel when your goal of participating in the Asian Games was delayed for a year?

A : I heard about the postponement when the Maekyung Open ended last year. I was in a car accident in Jeonju, and I heard it right away after being eliminated from the preliminaries. At first, I didn’t really feel it, but after a week or two, I thought, ‘Is the Asian Games I’ve been waiting for so long gone?’ He was in a hurry because he was not young as an amateur, and he felt very sad and empty. However, in my golf life, in some ways, waiting for 1-2 years is an experience, and now I am preparing earnestly and diligently.

Q: How do you see the chances of a gold medal in the Asian Games?토스카지노

A: I have the confidence that I can win no matter who my opponent is if I prepare well. I want to achieve good grades so that people say that there is no other player who can compete in Korea without those players.

Q: I will compete with professional golfers Lim Seong-jae and Kim Si-woo. I wonder how you feel.

A : I was very nervous at first. I really thought a lot about whether I would become a burden. But now I’m excited to be able to participate as a team. Imagine hugging and cheering in moments of joy. I don’t think of it as a burden now. I am really confident as a team.

Q: What do you think is the improvement point?

A : The start is rather slow. It’s the tendency of not playing well on the first day, playing just like that on the second day, thinking ‘I hit a little well’ on the third day, and rushing on the last day, but I have to improve a lot. The physical aspect is also not in a state where you can produce the best performance, so you need to think about it and supplement it.

Q: So far, men’s golf is not as popular as women’s golf. Do you have any regrets about this part?

A: I’m not sorry. No. 1 in the world rankings has yet to be released. When world-class players appear in men’s golf, interest around them will naturally increase. Men’s golf is also coming up a lot now. I think we can develop more in the future. I think interest will rise only when there are more players from the PGA Tour. I also have thoughts that I want to contribute to the popularity of men’s golf.

Q: Lastly, please say something to the fans who support Wooyoung. Please tell us what kind of player you would like to be remembered as.

A: I’m not a regular pro yet, and I’m not well known, but I’m looking forward to good results in this Asian Games, and I’ll do my best to enter the Korean tour next year. We ask for your encouragement and support.

I want to be an applauded player. Overall, I want to hear a lot of comments like ‘That golfer is a really good player’ and ‘He’s a really good person’.
