Lotte Giants pitcher Park Se-woong overcame early struggles to get a quality start (three earned runs or less in six innings), but the bats fell flat.
Park started the Giants’ home game against the KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Sajik Stadium in Busan on 6 June and threw 103 pitches in six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Park attacked the KT bats with a fastball that reached up to 150km/h. Along with 38 fastballs, he threw 25 curves and sliders for variety, and 15 forkballs effectively turned the KT bats around.
However, the early start was disappointing. Park gave up two runs on two hits and a walk on 24 pitches in the top of the second inning. He gave up a straight ball to leadoff hitter Jang Jang-woo, a walk to Hwang Jae-gyun, a single to his “old teammate” Lee Ho-yeon, and an outfield sacrifice fly after a seven-pitch battle with his assigned pitcher.
Park then settled down and pitched a long inning. After throwing 42 pitches in the second inning, Park retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth innings, and then got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning by getting out of a bases-loaded jam with Byung-ho Park. Park was replaced by Kim Sang-soo at the start of the seventh inning and successfully completed his starting duties.
However, Park was unable to secure the win. He was unable to get the win as the offence held starter Ko Young-pyo to four hits, one walk and one run in seven innings. Park was unable to capitalise on a runner on third base in the bottom of the sixth inning, leaving him with a 1-2 deficit and a loss instead of a win.
