Manchester United have made initial contact with Chelsea over the signing of Mason Mount.
British outlet Sky Sports reported on the 3rd (KST), “Manchester United have approached Chelsea over the signing of Mount, but a formal offer has not yet been made. Personal terms between United and Mount would not be an issue if a deal were to be struck between the clubs.”
Mount is a midfielder that Chelsea have pampered. He joined Chelsea’s youth ranks in 2005 and has steadily progressed through the ranks. The Blues had high hopes for him. Mount won four consecutive FA Youth Cups and was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year in 2016-17. He then went out on loan to Pittesser and Derby County to gain experience.스포츠토토
He made his Chelsea first-team debut in the 2019-20 season. When Frank Lampard, who had coached Mount at Derby, took over at Chelsea, Mount was also promoted to the first team. He was Lampard’s crown prince. Since his debut season, Mount has flourished, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 37 English Premier League (EPL) appearances. Last season, he finished 10-10 in the league with 11 goals and 10 assists.
This season has been a bit of a downer. Mount’s season came to an unfortunate end in March when he was injured and played just one game before the season ended. In the final home game of the season against Newcastle United, Mount appeared to be saying goodbye to the fans.
There’s a reason why head coach Eric ten Haag wants to bring him back. According to the UK’s The Telegraph, “Van Gaal will give Mount a number eight role. He sees him as one of two signings for the upcoming transfer window. The other signing he desperately wants is a striker, and his dream is still Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.”
Currently, the number eight role at United is filled by Christian Eriksen. Fred is his backup, but he’s far from satisfactory. His ups and downs, defensive positioning, and poor build-ups make him one of the most unpopular players with United fans. If Mount were to sign, he would be expected to compete with Eriksen for a starting spot.
The problem is the transfer fee. Mount’s contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2024. However, Chelsea want a whopping £80 million. United believe this is too high. “United want to sign him for less than £60m,” said Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports in the US. They are also reportedly considering a cash-plus-swap deal for Harry Maguire.
