NC Dinos announced on the 31st that it had completed the composition of foreign players for the 2023 season by recruiting a new foreign pitcher, Taylor Widener (29).
The terms of the contract are $145,000 down payment and $598,000 annual salary for a total of $743,000.
Taylor Widener is a right-handed overhand pitcher with a height of 183 cm and a weight of 92 kg. He mainly uses a fastball with an average of 150 km (up to 155 km), a slider and a changeup, and throws a mix of curves.
Widener, whose command is considered outstanding, competed for 5 starts in his team until just before the season last year, and in the 2021 season, he started in 13 out of 23 games played in the big leagues.
Widener, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, was selected by the New York Yankees in the 12th round of the 2016 draft, and has played for Arizona since 2018. He debuted in the big leagues in 2020 and went 2-3 with 4 holds with an earned run average of 4.26 in 107.2 innings in 49 major league career games (13 starts). Last year, he appeared in 14 games and recorded an average ERA of 3.63 with 1 loss and 1 hold in 17.13 innings.안전놀이터
Widener said, “I am very grateful to have joined the NC Dinos. My goal this season is to play without skipping the starting rotation and bring the team victory,” he said. “I will do my best in my role so that the team can win again. He continued pitching practice and weight training drills during the offseason, and recently started pitching on the mound. It’s my first time to learn anything about Korea, but I’m interested in Korean culture and I’m ready to learn. I look forward to the day I play in front of the Dinos fans.”
Lim Seon-nam, general manager of the NC Dinos, said, “I am satisfied with being able to reinforce good resources in the foreign player recruitment market, which has been experiencing many difficulties recently. With the addition of Widener, I think we will be able to build a strong starting lineup with Peddy and Koo Chang-mo.” In particular, his four-seam fastball is powerful. He also thought that the fact that he had a style that was opposite to Peddy, who led the game with a two-seam fastball, was an advantage in that he could compose the starting lineup in various ways.”
Meanwhile, as soon as the process with the current team is completed, Widener will join Tucson, Arizona, where NC Dinos’ CAMP 2 (NC Spring Camp) is underway after his final contract.
