The Korean women’s tennis team challenges to advance to the World Group 2 playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup (World Women’s Tennis Championships), a national competition.
The women’s tennis team will compete in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania region 1 group qualifier to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on the 11th to 15th.
Korea, ranked 32nd in the world, will play five group matches against Japan (19th), China (21st), India (27th), Uzbekistan (39th) and Thailand (47th).
The top two countries will advance to the World Group 2 in the playoffs to be held in November.
The bottom two countries go down to Region 2, and the 3rd and 4th places in the group remain in Region 1.
Since 2009, Korea has been participating in Group 1 of the Asia-Oceania region for the 14th time, except for 2020, when the tournament was canceled due to Corona 19.

Baek Da-yeon, born in 2002, and Koo Yeon-woo, and Jung Bo-young, born in 2003, were selected for the adult national team for the first time in their lives.
All players except Kim Da-bin, who was the previous national team member, were candidates for the national team last year.
Coach Kim said, “There are difficulties in objective combat, but we will work with strategies tailored to each country. As it is a period of generational change, this tournament will be a good experience for the players in the long term.”
Captain Choi Ji-hee said, “It is my first time playing the role of the eldest sister in the national team, but there are many young players, so the team atmosphere is bright. I will achieve my goal well in a good atmosphere.”
